Choose from two styles of DVD slide shows: |
The Basic DVD Slide Show utilizes simple “cut-to-next” transitions between images as illustrated on the right. With this style of show you are able to use your DVD player’s remote control “skip” or “next” button to advance quickly from one image to the next much the same as you would skip or forward through a movie chapter by chapter.
Your original scanned images will also be accessible on this same disk through your computer’s DVD-ROM drive for viewing, copying, printing, etc. or optionally you can select to have these images on a separate disk.
Background music is not available with this style of show.
You may use your remote’s pause button to freeze the show on a particular image while viewing either style of the DVD slide shows.
Please note that the above examples are for illustrative purposes only. The actual DVD production will show your images for approximately 8 seconds each.

Film transparencies tend to fade with time producing a reddish or bluish tint. We will color-correct your images at no extra charge.
We also use infrared technology to help minimize the appearance of dust, scratches, and fingerprints on images scanned from most color films.

Will the DVD play in my DVD player?
We use DVD-R disks to create your DVD slide show disks. DVD-R disks will play in about 90% of all stand-alone DVD players as well as your computer’s DVD-ROM drive with DVD player software.
Check the documentation that came with your player for more information, or you can check on-line at vcdhelp.com to see if your player has been tested for compatibility. If your DVD player is not compatible, you might also consider purchasing a new one. Prices have fallen dramatically -- some as low as $50.00.
If you’re still in doubt, you might consider ordering our Trial DVD Slide Show disk.

What resolution and file format will my images be in?
We scan your images at 1200 dpi resolution and save them in TIFF format. Medium format films may be scanned at a lower resolution due to the already larger size of the film. When the DVD slide show is produced, the images are rendered into video resolution (NTSC 720x480). With the basic DVD slide show, we can save a copy of the original TIFF files on your disk as well for viewing separately using your computer’s DVD-ROM drive or optionally you may have your original TIFF files saved to a separate disk. With the enhanced DVD slide show style, the original TIFF files are saved on a separate disk. JPEG file format is available upon request as are other resolutions. Please discuss any special requests with us in advance of placing your order
Note: Scanning your images at a higher resolution will not improve quality/resolution of your DVD slide show production since the images are rendered into video resolution.
If you would like to see an example of a 35mm scan at 1200 dpi, a trial image is provided in both JPEG & TIFF format for download. Simply right click each file and save to your hard drive.

How many images can I get onto one DVD Slide Show production?
We can create multiple slide shows on your DVD organized into specific sequence/shows as you desire. If selecting the basic show style, each show is limited to no more than 99 images. This limit does not apply to the enhanced show style.
If you select the basic DVD slide show style, the DVD will hold approximately 600-700 (35mm) images. The actual number of images the disc can hold will vary based on film size (i.e. we see many 126 film slides from the 60's which produce a smaller image than the 35mm, then there were also the 127 superslides of the 50's and early 60's which are far larger than the 35mm).
With the enhanced DVD slide show style the disk will hold roughly 850 images or approximately 2 hours of viewing time. The separate image DVD will hold roughly 850 (35mm) images, but again this quantity can vary based on the film size as well.
If you have a large number of images, we can create multiple DVD volumes.

How does the DVD play? How do I navigate the DVD?
The DVD slide show disk when inserted into your DVD player should automatically open up at the main menu page. On this page you will see up to 6 small images (thumbnails). Each of these images represent a separate show and the image shown will be the first image displayed in the show. Simply navigate around the menu with your arrow keys until the show you want to watch is highlighted, then press play. If your production contains more than 6 shows, you will be able to navigate to a second menu page with up to 6 more shows, and so on. When the show that you’ve selected is done playing, you will automatically be returned to the menu where you can select the next show you wish to view.

Negatives: Please handle negatives carefully by the edges. It would be best to send negatives in their original sleeves if available. If not, slip each one into a folded strip of paper or envelope. Indicate which frame number to be included in the slide show on the paper/envelope before inserting the film strip to avoid damaging the negative. Choose the number/letter closest to the middle of the picture on the negative strip.
Slides: Number each slide by marking on the mounting material surrounding the slide.
Photos: Number each on the reverse side in pencil and press lightly.
Digital Images: Submit your digital images on CD or DVD in PC format. Name the files so that they will fall into the order you wish them to be shown in the slide show.
THEN: Group all your images together by slide show and place in a suitable container. Use a separate container for each slide show/group. If selecting the basic show style, each slide show/group should not contain more than 99 images. This limit does not apply to the enhanced show style. Do not use paper clips or staples as these may damage your images. Please make sure your films are packed well so any organization you have done will not be disturbed in shipping. It’s also a good idea to enclose them in plastic. Enclose a separate sheet indicating the following for each group:
- Briefly name the slide show (14 or fewer characters including spaces).
- Indicate the order in which you wish the images to appear based on the numbers you have assigned each image (or file name for digital images).
- If background music is desired, enclose your own music CD and indicate desired tracks or any specific requests. Multiply the total number of images
- Print out and complete an order form. Further instructions can be found on the order form.
